UC sponsors a wide variety of programs for high schools and community
colleges to support eligible students from all backgrounds. Examples include:
Tutoring, mentoring, test preparation, and other special academic
support and enrichment programs
- EAOP
(Student Preparation) works with students, their
families, educators and communities throughout the
state. EAOP helps California's educationally
disadvantaged students turn dreams of attending college
into reality.
- Mathematics, Engineering, Science
Achievement (MESA) prepares and encourages students in math, science,
engineering, and technology to attend college and become technology
professionals.
- Puente helps educationally underserved
students succeed academically, enroll in college, and return to the
community as mentors and leaders; it has both high school and community
college programs.
- The UC College Prep (UCCP)
program, based at UC Santa Cruz, provides Advanced Placement and honors
courses on the Internet, so that more students are competitive in their
applications to UC and other universities.
- To help prepare students for college level composition exams, UC
and the California State University have jointly developed the Diagnostic Writing Service, a web-based
composition support service for eleventh grade students and teachers.
- UC Links, a multi-campus program, provides access to
quality after-school care and technology-based educational activities
and resources for low-income youth and their families. UC Links also
fosters teachers' use of new technologies for teaching and learning.
- The California State Summer
School in Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) is a new pre-college
residential experience at UC Irvine and UC Santa Cruz that gives participating
high school students access to the laboratories of UC scientists and
engineers, enabling them to explore advanced topics not traditionally
offered in high school curricula.
- UC ArtsBridge,
based at UC Irvine, connects with California public schools to provide
art, dance, drama, and music education.
Motivating students to consider a college education and professional
