Tutoring, mentoring, test preparation, and other special academic
support and enrichment programs
- EAOP
(Student Preparation) works with students, their
families, educators and communities throughout the
state. EAOP helps California's educationally
disadvantaged students turn dreams of attending college
into reality.
- Mathematics,
Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) prepares and
encourages students in math, science, engineering, and technology
to attend college and become technology professionals.
- Puente
helps educationally underserved students succeed academically,
enroll in college, and return to the community as mentors
and leaders; it has both high school and community college
programs.

The UC College Prep (UCCP) program, based at UC Santa Cruz, provides Advanced
Placement and honors courses on the Internet, so that more
students are competitive in their applications to UC and
other universities.

To help prepare students for college level composition exams,
UC and the California State University have jointly developed
the Diagnostic Writing Service, a web-based
composition support service for eleventh grade students
and teachers.
- UC
Links, a multi-campus program, provides access
to quality after-school care and technology-based educational
activities and resources for low-income youth and their
families. UC Links also fosters teachers' use of new technologies
for teaching and learning.

The California State
Summer School in Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) is
a new pre-college residential experience at UC Irvine and
UC Santa Cruz that gives participating high school students
access to the laboratories of UC scientists and engineers,
enabling them to explore advanced topics not traditionally
offered in high school curricula.
- UC
ArtsBridge, based at UC Irvine, connects with California
public schools to provide art, dance, drama, and music education.

Basin Initiative (LABI) offers a wide range of summer/intersession
academic enrichment and professional development programs
to high school and middle school students, teachers, and
counselors from Los Angeles County.

UC campuses offer tours, either on campus or on the Internet,
to introduce campus life to prospective students and their
families.

The SAGE Scholars program (510/987-9100), on the UC
Irvine and UC Berkeley (510/642-2325) campuses,
provides comprehensive multi-year paid internships,
extensive mentoring, workshops and financial support
to promising, economically disadvantaged students during
college.

UC LEADS (562/728-8732) provides undergraduates at each
UC campus with mentoring, academic enrichment, and skills
training to prepare for graduate study.
