Angeles Basin Initiative (LABI) offers a wide
range of summer/intersession academic enrichment and
professional development programs to high school and
middle school students, teachers, and counselors from
Los Angeles County.

Community Education Research Centers (CERCs) make
UC resources more accessible to local communities
and serve as a locus for collaboration. They are located
in the San Francisco Bay area (through UC Berkeley,
510/987-9354) and in the Los Angeles Basin (through

X at UCLA works to strengthen education for the
children of Los Angeles by conducting applied research
and providing professional development.

The Urban Education Studies Center
(UESC) at UCLA provides a unique setting where
nationally recognized scholars and researchers collaborate
with teachers and administrators to resolve cultural,
economic, and language challenges facing America's
public schools.
- The
Center for the Study of Urban Poverty
(CSUP) at UCLA sponsors collaborative research
on issues of urban poverty and social welfare, disseminates
study results to local policy makers, and offers research
training for UC students.

The Center
for Healthier Children, Families and Communities (CHCFC)
at UCLA works to provide K-12 students with the opportunity
to assume productive roles within families and communities;
conducts applied and policy research; trains health
and social service providers; and provides technical

Mental Health in Schools at UCLA conducts research
and dissemenates information on policies, programs,
and practices relevant to mental health in schools.
